Angel's Head

The Head of an Angel was one of Samuel Bugeja’s early work. Samuel was barely 19 years old when he precociously produced an impeccable wooden head of an angel.

This execution was done as a testimonial of his skill to the Naxxar Parish Church authorities for which they later commissioned him the creation and decoration of the organ loft of the parish church. For such a young sculptor to be entrusted with such a major commission must have filled him with much satisfaction. It certainly set the path for greater success.

Head of an Angel is carved in mahogany during late 1939 and early 1940.
