Salome

Salome is a masterpiece carved from a pine tree trunk that was found lying on the ground in the countryside. Samuel Bugeja was blessed with seeing the ultimate finished sculpture by looking at particular tree trunks.

Bugeja quickly embarked in creating Salome, an incredible graceful, beautiful and slender dancer of biblical times. Bugeja’s interpretation is sublime, but perhaps the carved beauty supported by the still highly visible tree trunk just adds to the drama of this creation.

Salome is an imposing life size statue that gains admiring and curious looks when one stands in front of this sculpture. It takes time to absorb the beauty.

"The sinuous form of 'Salome' projects the beauty of blossiming youth, the hedonism and vitality of sensuality and sexuality". E.V. Borg Art Critic
