Carved in Pine wood, the Madonna of the Millennium was originally a commission by a private individual and is a full size statue. Due to health reasons by the person who commissioned, it was never delivered. Instead this work of art remained with the artist who never really wanted to sell any of his works. Samuel Bugeja would get too attached to his works and always resisted private commissions.
The statue shows a peaceful face with the minimal of smiles, with her head elevated towards the Heaven. The Madonna is not touching the ground, but has flowers around her feet. The cloak wraps round the body and shows high level of artistic competence to achieve such effect.
